The Picture Book Library is a great place to visit, especially if you are bringing young children to Nami Island. In a child-friendly, relaxing atmosphere, kids can immerse themselves in our outstanding book collection. Our staff also provides different programs and activities for kids.

    Nami Island International
    Children's Book Festival

    The Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival was founded in 2005 as one way of Nami Island commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of its greatest inspirations, Hans Christian Andersen. From the inception of this festival, also known as “Nambook,” the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) has played a vital role.

    Now Nambook is a biennale and the focus has shifted to the Nami Concours, which is a global competition that invites illustrators from all over the world to submit their works in an effort to promote the field of children’s book illustrations. In 2015 thousands of illustrators submitted their works to Nami Concours, an event which is quickly gaining worldwide recognition.

      Nami Island Handicraft Studio

      The Nami Island Handicraft Studio was founded in 2001 when activities consisted of basically using an electric kiln to fire a few ceramics. Now the scale and type of activities have increased dramatically and this is truly a studio where creativity is the most important component. The studio is engaged in making ceramics, glassware, wood crafts, dye crafts, and paper crafts.

        Greenshop Hands-on Learning Center

        Greenshop offers several programs, however the one that it takes greatest pride in is its “Wild Grass Paper Making” course. Ingredients for the paper all come from Nami and include things like mugwort, straw, reeds, the bark of mulberry and metasequoia trees. The paper created is known as “Nami-ji,” (“ji” means paper).

            Yu Qing Cheng’s
            Happy Garden Sculpture Gallery

            Yu Qing Cheng’s Happy Garden Sculpture Gallery The rustic, yet utterly appealing sculptures focused mainly on mothers and their children are some of the highlights of the work of Yu Qing Cheng. Mr. Yu Qing Cheng has pioneered a highly individualistic and creative artistic world becoming one of China’s representative artists. He received the honorary title of “Pioneer in Folk Arts” from the Chinese Ministry of Culture in 1998, was designated “Master of Folk Arts” and awarded the title of “International Art Master” by UNESCO (United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization) at the age of 52. His art work is very popular with Nami Island’s many visitors, in fact Mr. Yu’s sculptures bring smiles to everyone who sees them. On Nami Island, the “Happy Garden” has been created as a place to exhibit his work forever.

            Pyeonghwarang Gallery

            Pyeonghwarang Gallery is named after Peace Story original work exhibition which was held for the 5th Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival. Diverse and creative exhibition of characteristic artists is held 365days a year.

            Culture House

            Culture House is a multipurpose art gallery that leads us to an imaginary trip through fairy tales. Winning works of NAMI CONCOURS 2017, the biggest international illustration concours in Asia, are on display with the use of space, sound, light and movement.

            Andersen Picture Book Center

            Andersen Picture Book Center is a multifunctioning cultural space, established in 2003 in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth. Books donated by International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), the host organization of Hans Christian Andersen Awards, are archived for research and display.
